Keys to the Kingdom

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be lose loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).

Loosing ones keys can be a frustrating ordeal, more so if there is only one set of the keys in question. When our keys go missing, we often turn everything upside down to try to find them and more often than not, the loss of our keys, be they office keys, car keys, house keys, leads to frustration, delays and even anxiety. Sometimes, they are so close but we don’t know they are there and we start looking elsewhere. The worst thing that can happen is loosing them and never finding them. The thought of not knowing in whose hands they have ended up, a friend or a foe, can be rather disturbing. Keys are important because they give you access and without the keys, one is denied access a place or thing, as the case may be.

Just before the verse that is the subject of our text, Jesus asked the disciples, “who do men say I am?” Peter answered; You are the Christ the Son of the Living God and Jesus declares that it is upon this revelation that the Church will be built and goes on to say “I will give you the keys of the kingdom………”. Jesus is saying to Peter that I will give you access to everything that is available in the kingdom. In other words, all that was shut out to us when Adam sinned will now be made available to us.

With the coming of Jesus, the second Adam, everything that was taken has been restored and so He says He will give us the:

Keys to bind up forces of darkness;
Keys to bind up powers attacking us;
Keys to loose those things that have been revealed to us from heaven.

Jesus does not intend that we His children should be outcasts. He has given us the keys and we have access. We can go in to the Father at anytime.

Friend, heaven’s treasures are waiting for us to access and we need to loose them in our lives. The hosts of heaven are waiting and we need to call them to bind up things on our behalf. We must not be ignorant of the fact that we have the keys. The Bible says “My people perish for lack of knowledge”. May that not be our portion. May we use the keys that have been made available to us and unlock that which belongs to us. God wants us to live our life to the fullest.

Take hold of the keys and appropriate what belongs to you in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the knowledge that you have given us the keys of your kingdom to bind and to loose. Father, give us the wisdom to take hold of the keys and appropriate all that you have made available to us. Help us to loose in our lives righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost and to bind up all that would keep us from being what you have called to be. We ask all this believing in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
