A once and for all sacrifice

For God so greatly loved and prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life (John 3:16 TAB)

As a result of Adam’s sin, man was separated from God. But it was not God’s intention that it should remain that way. You see, He loved us so much that He could not let us remain under the bondage of sin so He devised a plan. That plan would cost the life of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, because no one else could fit the bill.

Jesus Christ who knew no sin, left His throne in glory and became sin for us. He endured the trial, torture and death for our sake so that we could have the opportunity to be reconciled to God. In order to be reconciled, all God requires is that we confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that Jesus is Lord and we will be saved (Romans 10:9)

Christ’s death on the cross was a once and for all sacrifice. His sacrifice was, still is and will always be efficacious. For generations to come, anyone who would confess Jesus as Lord would be saved from the bondage of sin. That is to say, the enemy need not harass us anymore because the price has already been paid. Hallelujah. But that is not all there is to the death of Christ on the cross. The Bible says we are heirs, joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). In other words, once we accept Him as Lord, we automatically become entitled to all the promises that have been made available to us by the Father. To put it in another way, whatever belongs to Christ belongs to us.

Friend, what are you waiting for? Have you considered this wonderful offer to accept Him as your Lord and Saviour and partake of those promises that are yours for the asking?

The good news is that salvation is not by works but by grace through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Prayer: Thank you for leaving your throne in glory and coming to earth to die for us so that we might be partakers of the kingdom. Help us to recognize and appreciate this great sacrifice and to never take it for granted. Lord, keep our eyes focused on you the author and the finisher of our faith. Amen
