I’ve got news for you

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Saviour has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:8-11).

For the shepherds, it was like any ordinary night. They were busy doing what they normally do, watching over their sheep. But this was no ordinary night because it was on that night that the greatest person who ever lived was born. He did not come with pomp and fanfare yet He was and still is the King of kings.

First, the Bible tells us that it was to shepherds, ordinary people, that God chose to first break the news. He did not choose to tell the Pharisees and Sadducees, the so-called religious leaders of that day. This confirms that God is no respecter of persons, He does not discriminate. The news was and is for all, both the high and the low.

Second, the angel says “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people”. In other words, this news is joyful news for everyone who would care to receive it. The Bible says “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). Friend, you see, with the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden, all humanity fell from fellowship with God but Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God, our Father. This is good news!

Third, the angel tells the shepherds that this child is their Saviour and is Christ the Lord. Hallelujah! A saviour is one who rescues others from evil, danger or destruction. Friend, a life without Christ is a life of danger, a perilous life. In Hebrew, the name Jesus is “Yeshua” which is the same as Joshua. The name Joshua means saviour. Just as Joshua led the children of Israel into the land of promise, so will Jesus lead all those who believe in Him out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

Fourth, the angel went further and told the shepherds where they could find the baby that had been born. You too can find Him today, if you do not already know Him. He is available to you. All you need to do, is call on Him and He will answer you and come into your heart. For the free Gift of Salvation click here. The Free Gift of Salvation.

Friend, the news of the birth of Jesus was good news then and is good news now.

Prayer:

O God, I thank you for sending your only begotten son to earth to die for us and by so doing, to take away our sins and give us eternal life. I acknowledge Him as my Lord, my Saviour and my Redeemer. May He be glorified in this season because He is the reason for the season and that is good news. Amen.
