Behold, the Lamb of God

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, “A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.” (John 1:29-31)

The Bible says John the Baptist went throughout the wilderness preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and that great multitudes went from Judea and Jerusalem to be baptized by him at the River Jordan, As he preached, he told the people of one who was coming after him who is mightier than he and who would baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire.

One day, as John was baptizing, he saw Jesus approaching and he drew the attention of the people saying to them “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world…..” John the Baptist had a revelation of who Jesus was and also what His mission was. He knew Him as the sacrificial lamb by whose death atonement is made for sin and man reconciled to God. Having this revelation, John was able to tell others of who Jesus was.

Jesus once asked His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is? While some said John the Baptist, others said Elijah and yet others said Jeremiah. Jesus then asked then “who do you say that I am?” Peter responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus told Peter that this revelation could not have been given to him by man but by My Father in heaven.(Mathew 16:13-18)

Friend, Jesus is still asking today, “Who do men say that I am?” Just as John had to point the people to Him then, we too have a duty, a commission, and a mandate to tell people who Jesus is. Many of us have family members, relatives, colleagues, neighbours, business partners, etc., who do not know who Jesus is. We must make Him known. But before we can do so, we must first know Him. We must study His Word, spend time in His presence and as we do so, we too will have a deeper revelation of who He is and by His power we will be transformed into what He wants us to be. It is only then that others will “Behold Him” through us. We may not even have to preach, we can simply live our lives in such a way that He will shine through us. Then and only then can we talk to them about Jesus and say “Behold the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world”.

Friend, are you pointing others to Him?

Prayer: Lord I recognize that there are many who do not know You and that is why today I am especially grateful that I do. I desire to have an even deeper revelation of who You are so that like, John I can also point others to You. Lord, help me to draw closer to You and I know that as I do, others will be drawn to You through me. I love You and I bless You in Jesus Mighty Name I pray. Amen.
